The power of market maps

Forget about running around like crazy and answering the same questions over and over – where do I set up? where do I park? where are the washrooms? It doesn’t have to be like that! Picture this: Vendors effortlessly locating their stalls and amenities, visitors exploring with ease, and everyone feeling confident in the market layout. With a well-crafted market map, your market becomes a harmonious space where connections flourish and experiences are memorable. Navigating a market can be a breeze with a comprehensive map that includes must-have details like:
  • washrooms
  • parking
  • electrical outlets
  • Banks/ ATMs
  • first aid stations
  • Market information booth
For a new location I use google mymaps to measure the market grounds, then move the screenshot to canva where I simplify the map, add stalls and other helpful details. See the social media post on how to do it! The market map is connected to the stall assignments which is part of the vendor information e-mail. I send out the e-mail every week about 2 days before the market to all the vendors. The expectation is that all vendors confirm their stall number and know where to go in the morning. On site I usually just quickly check in with them to make sure that they are in the right spot. It reduces the set-up stress level on both sides significantly, leaving more capacity to chat about other things while building a personal connection. Professional looking market maps can also be published and made available for market-goers, giving them an idea of where to go and what to expect – especially handy for big and busy markets. A good map not only reduces stress during set-up but also puts vendors at ease, helps new vendors find their way, and streamlines communication on the management side.
